What happens when the business needs one thing and the technical team sees it differently? I hosted a discussion with Leonardo Romanello of Promoty, Priit Matiisen of Scoro, and Ragmar Saksing of Tehnopol about the decisions founders and technical leaders face.
We explored their experiences of making difficult choices, working together, and deciding what to build in-house. This was part of Tune up for a scale up, a webinar series from Tehnopol Startup Incubator and Mikaels Labs.

Harry Kanistik and I shared lessons from building companies at a Tehnopol event. My part focused on the mistakes founders can make when hiring a development team without a CTO or technical co-founder.
We talked about assessing developers’ skills and values, getting technical help with hiring, improving communication between business and engineering, and giving product ownership the attention it needs.

How many developers does a startup need, and what should it look for when building a team? I moderated a panel on developer quality and team size with Sergei Anikin of Pipedrive, Anton Narusberg of MeetFrank, and Christjan Schumann of Clanbeat.
Mikaels Labs hosted the event as part of Startup Week Tallinn 2019. The programme also included talks by Mart Espenberg of Insly on becoming a lead, and Alo Arro of Teamscope on recruitment and training.

I spoke at sTARTUp AI at the V Conference Centre in Tartu, representing Mikaels Labs.
The conference looked at what AI could realistically do for businesses, the infrastructure behind it, and the difficulties of putting it into practice. The programme brought together speakers from organizations including Starship Technologies, STACC, Valohai, and AlphaBlues, with Dmytro Fishman moderating.
